Hey Gleeks! We got a VERY special treat last night; 2 episodes of Glee back-to-back! It’s getting so close to graduation, and that means Nationals! Sue is dead-set on getting the championship for these kids so she can get her Cheerios back (and she may care about them, just a little bit). She’s noticed how Unique has become quite the sensation and asks Kurt to wear a dress during Nationals, and go under the new name “Porcelina”. He refused (it’s an insane idea), so we go to the choir room. Mr. Shue is talking about giving the solos to Rachel (as usual) and is looking for dedication and hard work. When he asks for any objections in the room, Tina stands up and leaves. She’s feeling bad (as she should), the poor girl has gotten barely any solos during ANY season of Glee. She’s sick of being in the background. Rachel comes out to talk to her, Mike is dissapointed, and she’s just overall flustered.
Appointed as the new costume manager for Nationals, Tina has her arms full with fabric at the mall. She sees Kurt and Blaine, says hi, and while she’s arguing with Mike over texts, she slips and falls in a fountain! On impact, she hits her head and enters a dream-like state. Expecting Kurt and Blaine to be the ones to pick her out of the fountain, she sees Finn and Puck’s faces looking at her, dressed like Kurt and Blaine. When she gets out of the fountain, it turns out they think she is Rachel! Everyone in the club has switched roles with someone else, and when they return to the Glee club we get to see all of them: Finn= Kurt, Puck=Blaine, Artie=Santana, Mercedes=Brittany, Sugar=Quinn, Mike=Joe, Sam=Rory, Tina=Rachel, Mr. Shue=Sue.
Tina (as Rachel) FINALLY gets to sing her solo in front of the Glee club. It was beautiful, and she got her first standing ovation from her friends . Tina (as Rachel) and Rachel (as Tina) go out and talk by the lockers. They give each other some great advice. Tina realises that she still has next year to be a star, and Rachel realises she needs to be persistent in her efforts to contact Tibideaux. When Tina wakes up from her dream and everyone is back to normal, she convinces Rachel to come with her and they drive to see Tibideaux. Tibideaux was not too pleased to see the girls, but Tina stands up for Rachel. They leave pretty disheartened; Tibideaux didn’t seem very convinced.
Sue is still persistent on Kurt wearing a dress for Nationals, and he still says no. Puck is trying to be a team player, so he shows up to Glee with a dress on. He mostly gets mocked for it, but he really just wants to win. Sue introduces some idea to start wearing lots of props, because the judges like that, and gives them all these metal helmets to wear.
After Glee club, Puck gets confronted by the hockey players. They call him a Lima Loser, and challenge him to a fight by his dumpster. Puck agrees, and when he gets out there they form a circle around him. Rick Nelson and Puck start fighting, and ultimately Puck gets thrown into his dumpster. He comes out though, ready for more, and pulls out a knife. Everyone starts backing off, and Beiste comes out and drags him away to the locker room. Turns out the knife was just a fake one from the West Side Story set (phew), and we see Puck’s feelings come out. He’s so sick of being a loser and not being able to graduate. Beiste and Puck hug it out, and little does Puck know, this talk they had urged Beiste to finally leave Cooter once and for all! The two sing Mean, and Puck finds out his geography teacher is going to give him another shot at the test, and Beiste agrees to help out I REALLY hope he graduates, he deserves it!
Beiste tells Sue the good news that she left Cooter, becomes a chaperone for Nationals, and Tina and Rachel sing a duet as the team loads the bus. It’s time for Nationals!
Mercedes gets a fever RIGHT before Nationals, and everyone is stressing out! They’re practicing their moves and everyone is arguing. Mr. Shue sees this as a good thing, it shows how badly they REALLY want this. Rachel and Jesse St. James see each other before the competition. Jesse, of course, knows about her efforts in trying to contact Tibideaux, and the two engage in some friendly banter, and Jesse and Finn shake hands.
The New Directions pick the first slot to perform. The Glee club does a group circle right before Nationals. Finn talks for all of them, he tells Mr. Shue that they are doing this for HIM and how badly they want to win this (this is also when the tears begin ). This is their LAST Nationals together as a club
The judges are introduced (including guest starts Lindsay Lohan and Perez Hilton as themselves), and the New Directions perform. First, the Troubletones do the Edge of Glory (with Mercedes healthy in time for the show!), Rachel does a solo It’s All Coming Back to me Now, and then they do the Paradise by the Dashboard Light as a whole group. They were phenomenal, and partway through Rachel’s performance we see Tibideaux show up in the audience! After they’re done performing, Jesse St. James goes out to talk to Tibideaux. He bsically tells her that she would be crazy not to let Rachel into NYADA. It was the sweetest thing I have ever seen Jesse do :*)
Up next is Vocal Adrenaline with Unique as their star. My favorite performance by them was Starship; Unique sounded fantastic! Unique almost didn’t go out though, she was crushing under the pressure. Kurt and Mercedes come in to wish her luck, and they convince her to get out there shine, as she does!
Finally, the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Unique is awarded as MVP. After three years of prepping and getting so close just to fall back again, THE NEW DIRECTIONS WIN NATIONALS! I am so unbelievably proud of them, and they definitely deserved that trophy. After some extremly emotional hugging and celebrating onstage, the kids go home to show off their victory to the whole school. When they enter, it is absolutely silent. You could tell from the expressions on the kids face that they thought no one in the school really cared. Two hockey players step up with slushie cups in their hands. The Glee kids brace for impact, but instead of getting soaked in slushie, they are covered in CONFETTI! The whole school breaks into celebration. Everyone is hugging everyone and celebrating (I was sobbing, but that’s not the point). Our Glee club FINALLY got the appreciation they had been longing for, and their moment in the spotlight.
The episode ends at the teacher awards ceremony. Mr. Figgins presents the Teacher of the Year award, and it goes to Mr. Shue! Before he could go up to accept it, Finn and Rachel come up on the stage…:). They both give very moving speeches about how he has been there through it all with them, and he didn’t really teach them anything school related, but that he taught them the most valuable lesson of their high school careers; never give up on your dreams. After their speeches, the curtains open up to reveal the Glee club singing We Are the Champions. While they sing, Mr. Shue walks up and hugs each and every student, everyone with tears in their eyes. It was such a great scene, and showed how far along our kids have grown up and come together as one.
I can’t be the only one out there that was crying throughout the whole episode?? I am SO RELIEVED that they finally got to win Nationals, that Rachel is going to get a second chance at NYADA, Puck could graduate, and that the kids still all love each other so much. Next week is the finale folks, get ready! Favorite part of the episode? Favorite song? Rate the episode in the comments and tell us what you think! See you next week!
